About the Mill Street Experiment
The 2023 Mill Street Experiment Showcase was a full-scale demonstration of how Mill Street could be safer and more walkable.
Many residents of Historic Downtown Liberty, as well as people who participate in our events, often choose not to cross Mill Street because it’s so uncomfortable for them. Lack of visibility, proximity to the street, poor lighting and crosswalks make the street unapproachable from a pedestrian perspective. This leaves the south side of Historic Downtown Liberty disconnected. It has proven itself to be a barrier, and the experiment proposed solutions to break this barrier.

Discovery Middle School
In April 2023, the Design Team had the opportunity to visit Discovery Middle School and present a challenging design problem to the students.
The task at hand was to come up with a safe way for pedestrians to cross Mill Street. This was a great opportunity for the students to apply their problem-solving skills and creativity to a real-world issue. We were impressed with the level of engagement and enthusiasm from the students and their innovative solutions.
