Welcome from Mayor/Awards
Welcome to Liberty!
Ideally located northeast of Kansas City on Interstate 35, Liberty enjoys easy access to the amenities of the big city, while preserving the atmosphere of a small town. Founded in 1822, Liberty was named for the principle that Americans hold most dear. Today, visitors to Liberty enjoy a vibrant mix of unique shops and restaurants, an abundance of recreational and cultural activities, historic sites and museums, and year-round events punctuated by the Liberty Arts Squared festival in June and the Fall Festival in September. From May through October, be sure to visit our award-winning Saturday Farmers’ Market and the monthly cruise nights on our historic downtown square.
Historic Liberty is best enjoyed on foot. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the monthly guided walking tours or self-guided tours via cell phone or podcast. More than 240 structures have been designated “Century Homes” for their historic significance. We are proud to be recognized as one of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Main Street communities and a Preserve America community.
Come see why Liberty has enjoyed national recognition as a great place to live for a number of years. In 2011 alone, Liberty was named the 3rd Best Town for Families by Family Circle Magazine and the 7th Best Place to Live by Money Magazine. I hope that our community assets and accolades will encourage you to visit Liberty, where there is something for all!
